down along the waterfront hulls crusted with algae with rust and blood and sweat plumes of smoke curl from a chain-smoking fisherman who watches for the tide for his nets for the hope of a pocket of gold and the scales groan and the fog rolls wispy grey a white-out blankets the known world chill seeps into his hands gnarled and callused bent from broken lines hooking rare fish swollen skin cracks from too much hunger days and nights waiting waiting for his empty nets to fill
