Passiflora incarnata

I’ve tried planting them from seed, waiting impatiently for tiny green leaves to break the earth. But none ever did. Next, I took a clipping from one I found growing wild, dipped it in root starter, planted it in a mixture of potting soil and perlite, tented it in plastic and kept it moist. But soon the leaves shriveled and fell off, leaving a rootless stem. Today while walking I spotted its vine and followed it into the brush to a lone lavender-colored flower. Its wavy, unruly petals and sepals like the hair of a wanton woman. The yellow stigma jutting out at me, taunting me, letting me know she would never be possessed.
